Media Processing Modules

The Media Processing Units (MPU) are used to process signals for various Xscend services. They are SOC-based programmable units that can be configured to provide a variety of signals on common hardware. Changes can be made quickly and easily without affecting other operations or services in the Xscend chassis.

There are several types of MPU’s with different interfaces which can be mixed and matched in the same Xscend chassis. Up to eight MPU’s can be installed in a single Xscend chassis.

Trunk Modules

STU Trunk Module with Switch

STU Trunk Module with Switch

QSFP x2 or QSFP x1 +SFP28 x4

STU (Trunk Unit with built-in Switch) connects Xscend to an IP media network. The STU is equipped with a L2/L3 switch so that signals from multiple MPU’s can be multiplexed and sent out across the network. The trunk port speed can be configured, providing up to 200Gbps trunk bandwidth with a single STU.

Up to two STU’s can be installed in an Xscend chassis with two units required for network redundancy.

Supported Interfaces
4x SFP28: 25G/10G/1G Ethernet
2x QSFP28: 100G Ethernet

Built in Switch capacity
1,024Gbps: 512Gbps x 2
Trunk Port: 100G x2 x2
MPU Interface: 25G x8 x2
EPU Interface: 50G x2 x2
PTP Interface: 10G x1 x2
CPU Interface: 1G x2 x2

Supported Protocols
LLDP (ML proprietary, IEEE standard), ARP, ICMP, IGMP v3, SSM, PTP

TU Trunk Module without Switch

TU Trunk Module without Switch

8 Port SFP28 Trunk Module

The TU (Trunk Unit without Switch) module connects Xscend to the IP media network. Trunk port speed is fixed at 25G. One TU provides up to eight (8) 25GbE trunk ports. Up to two TU’s can be installed in one Xscend chassis with two units required for network redundancy.

Service Specification
8x 25G Ethernet (Fixed speed)

Supported Protocols
LLDP (ML proprietary, IEEE standard), ARP, ICMP, IGMP v3, SSM, PTP

Additional Modules

Extended CPU (EPU) Module

Extended CPU (EPU) Module

As an optional assembly to include with the fan module, the EPU contains a CPU for extended media processing. Up to two EPU’s can be installed in Xscend, allowing for additional processing capability in support of various enhanced media protocols such as “RIST”.

Controller (CNT) Module

Controller (CNT) Module

The Controller (CNT) module configures and monitors the entire Xscend system either thru an RJ-45 outband management port or inband thru the STU/TU module(s). Multiple CNT modules can be utilized to support redundancy should one of them fail. A serial console interface is available allowing for configuration and log access.

Power Supply (PSU) Module

Power Supply (PSU) Module

One or two AC or DC power supply units can be installed in the Xscend chassis. With two units 1+1 redundancy is available, allowing replacement of any one unit without turning off the system.
